Laser Vein Treatments

What is Smooth Beam®?

Smooth Beam® is a laser procedure used for acne, acne scars and wrinkles. It is a non-ablative laser, meaning that it does not burn, cut or remove the skin’s surface. Instead, it works on the deeper skin underneath the top layer.

How does Smooth Beam® work?
A laser produces a beam of light at a specific wavelength and heats the collagen and sebaceous glands. This stimulation of collagen produces healthy, younger skin. A dynamic cooling device cools and protects the skin’s surface during the procedure.

What are the results?

Smooth Beam® stimulates collagen growth which improves fine lines and wrinkles, as well as acne and the pitted scars it leaves behind.

Are there side effects?

Possible side effects include hypo pigmentation (lightening of the skin), hyper pigmentation (darkening of the skin) and redness. Scarring is also possible.

What can be expected post-treatment?

The immediate appearance of the skin varies with each patient. Most patients have redness but little to no discomfort. Redness may last from an hour to a day, but patients can usually resume normal activities immediately.

How soon will results appear?

Results are not immediate. Patients can expect to have two to six treatments every four to six weeks. Each patient’s reaction to the laser varies, and some patients require more treatment than others to see full results.

How long does a treatment last?

Treatment can take up to thirty minutes.

Who are candidates for treatment?

Those with current acne, acne scars or wrinkles are the best candidates for the treatment.

Who should avoid treatment?

Those who tan or are in the sun for long periods of time should avoid this treatment because it is recommended that you stay out of the sun for four to six weeks prior to treatment.

How does the treatment feel?

When the laser is applied, some patients feel a stinging sensation similar to the sensation of a rubber band snapping against the skin. You may be given an anesthetic cream to apply to the area before treatment.

What are alternative treatments?
Those with acne can take medication like Accutane® to clear the skin. Other laser treatments can fill out acne scars and wrinkles. Injectables and chemicals peels may also be an option.

Is additional treatment necessary?

Yes. Two to six sessions are recommended for full results.

What are the limitations of Smooth Beam®?

One Smooth Beam® treatment will not completely reduce acne, scars or wrinkles. Multiple treatments are necessary to achieve permanent results.

Instructions for before treatment:

The skin to be treated must not be tanned. If the patient has a history of cold sores, an anti-viral medication will be prescribed before treatment. Patients must not have taken Accutane® six months prior to laser treatment.

Instructions for after treatment:
Apply cool compresses to the treated area to reduce redness, swelling and discomfort. Gentle skin care is advised; avoid using abrasive cleansers. Wear sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day.
